Johnnie Walker Private Collection 2016
The 2016 Edition focuses on the delicate art of balancing aromatic layers of honey sweetness with soft, gentle fruit distillery character.
One by one, over 100 casks of rare Single Grain Scotch Whiskies (including from five Johnnie Walker distilleries, four now silent –Caledonian, Cambus, Carsebridge and Port Dundas) were selected by Master Blender Jim Beveridge. At the blending table he gathered these into two styles – woody, vanilla, fudge notes and sweeter, estery, honey notes- alongside a special Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from a range of experimental casks, before marrying in casks for several months.
It also highlights the splendour and radiance that grain whiskies bring to Johnnie Walker’s Blended Scotch Whiskies.
The 2016 Edition is bottled in 8,888 individually numbered glass decanters, graduated in shades of amber to reflect the depth and layers of Fine Honeyed Notes.
No age statement
Nose: The first impression is of the vibrant, fragrant, honeyed notes from the mature Single Grain Scotch Whiskies. These evolve into fresh fruit and light floral notes.
Palate: Sipping the blend, the texture is incredibly soft and creamy. The first Grain Whisky character to appear is a blend of heady, aromatic, honey sweetness. As these myriad flavours swirl around the palate, American oak fudge and vanilla notes of the second Grain Whisky emerge to balance and bring depth.
Comment: As the layers are revealed further, the soft, warm fruits associated with the Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky come through as pears and apple skins, with a background echo of estery sweetness through to the finish.
